Situated in Passos, countryside city in the state of Minas Gerais, the Mes residence was constructed in a limited territory of 15 x 48m. The concept of the house falls upon a single slab marquee that protects the house from the sun creating convenient shadows and integrating every area of the house.
The circular void (where a native tree “Pau Brasil” was planted) reveals the path for the main entrance while all curved walls set the limits between interior and exterior of the house at ground level with a fluid perimeter. Most structural elements were hidden within walls while circulars columns were exposed to showcase simple structuring elements of the marquee.
A rectangular geometry protected by a full perimeter brise-soleil shapes the upper level of the house. The exposed concrete slab with thinner edges reinforces the large intervals between structural elements with simplicity and lightness. Natural regional materials were used as fixed finishes for house as the “São Tomé” stone, granilite and tauari wood.
